Before & After

Rhinoplasty Types & Techniques

Open

Rhinoplasty

The “open rhinoplasty” technique involves creating an incision along the width of the columella and lifting the skin to allow greater visibility and increased precision. When needed, our rhinoplasty surgeons implement this technique to gain full access to the nose’s delicate architecture, including the elegant scaffolding at the nasal tip.

Closed

Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty requires a more precise technique to access the inner nasal structures via the nostrils and involves making fewer incisions which minimize scarring. A closed rhinoplasty may be appropriate for minor corrections and reshaping. This method is less invasive, which means a faster recovery time and less post-procedure swelling than in open rhinoplasty.

Tip

Rhinoplasty

A tip rhinoplasty, also known as a mini nose job, is performed to improve the shape of the nasal tip by either augmenting or reducing the appearance of the nasal alars and cartilage without operating on the nasal bridge or bony structure. This simple procedure aims to improve facial aesthetics with minimal scarring.

Septorhinoplasty

A deviated septum can cause nasal blockage and make breathing difficult when exercising, eating, and speaking. Septorhinoplasty involves performing a deviated septum surgery and a traditional nose job at the same time to improve the appearance and function of the nose.

Revision

Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is an option taken by patients who have undergone previous unsatisfactory surgery elsewhere or have problems breathing through the nose. The nature of your revision rhinoplasty will be dependent on your specific goals. Some revision rhinoplasty cases involve a complex nose reshaping, while others can be simple, such as removing excess bone in the nasal bridge.

Ultrasonic

Rhinoplasty

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, also known as diamond rhinoplasty, is the latest and most advanced cosmetic nose surgery technique for precision nasal bone sculpting with less bruising and swelling and a quicker recovery. The main advantage of this technique is the increased precision afforded through using the piezotome device, and results after ultrasonic rhinoplasty are better compared with a traditional open rhinoplasty.

The Gulf Nose

Rhinoplasty

This term refers to patients from the gulf region who have thicker skin and softer cartilage compared to Caucasians. Thus, they require different surgical techniques to help them achieve the desired look while maintaining their unique ethnic identity.

Caucasian/Mediterranean

Rhinoplasty

Our rhinoplasty surgeons have extensive experience in rhinoplasty techniques suitable for Caucasian/Mediterranean noses. They achieve amazing results while preserving the unique ethnic features of the nose.

African and Asian

Rhinoplasty

This type of rhinoplasty is requested by patients of Asian or African descent to make subtle or major changes to the nose, usually the nose bridge or nostrils, while maintaining their unique ethnic identity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose by altering the cartilage and/or bones of the nose to create a new shape and size. Rhinoplasty can also resolve breathing problems for those who have a functional nasal issue, like a deviated septum.

Why would I need a rhinoplasty?

The following are some reasons why you may consider a rhinoplasty:

  • You are unhappy with the shape of your nose
  • Your nose is the first thing you notice when looking in the mirror
  • Your nose is crooked
  • You have breathing difficulties
  • Your nose has a bump
  • You are unhappy with the size of your nostrils
  • You want to improve the balance of your facial features
What Type of Surgeon Performs a Rhinoplasty?

A facial plastic surgeon will have the most experience with rhinoplasty procedures. No two noses are the same, and no two rhinoplasty surgeries are the same either. Rhinoplasty surgery is an incredibly complex procedure, therefore; Novomed Center’s has only the most experienced and reputable facial plastic surgeons, with decades of experience in performing rhinoplasty surgeries.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty Phase one

First and foremost, always follow your surgeon’s instructions. You may be excited to see your rhinoplasty results right away, but the recovery process does take time. Downtime can be anywhere between 5 to 7 days, with the splint being removed on the 7th day. Keep in mind, recovery time varies from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the procedure. Every person heals differently, but typically any swelling or bruising may take up to two weeks to resolve.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty Phase two

Around 3 to 4 weeks patients can safely return to cardiovascular activities, such as swimming, jogging, and cycling. However, resistance workouts such as weightlifting, should not be resumed until about 6 weeks post-operation, as for the bones of the nose only become stable around this time.
Numbness and abnormal sensations after undergoing rhinoplasty are normal but will resolve between 3-6 months after the surgery. The final result of the surgery will be visible after about 12 months when swelling has subsided completely, and the new shape of the nose is fully refined.
